Shameless

An Australian television station has aired new Abu Ghraib images, taken in 2003. The United States' reaction?

"US defence department spokesman Bryan Whitman said the images 'could only further inflame and possibly incite unnecessary violence in the world.' He said: '[The images] would endanger our military men and women.'"

The U.S. has taken that old saw, "The best defense is an offense" way too far.

this exchange from another blog on this issue is startling:

Jack, I've just been pondering on this remark you made: "The American troops are torturing the Muslim captives with the intention to show them that suffering is bad and that when they make others suffer they are engaging in negative behavior."

Do you think that this torture is acceptable? By your own estimation, what proportion of the American population would agree with your viewpoint? These are genuine questions: I've just never heard anyone put forward this view.

Chazza,

I have visited Europe many times. I admire the European national communities. As an American it is not the individual Muslim that is evil but the ideology theyu espouse (Islam). Though I have never done so my father had the opportunity to torture Muslims in east Africa in the late 60s. He did not do this out of hatred but with the intention of inflicting upon them the very tenets by which they lived. He told me that many came to understand how wrong the Koran was and rejected Islam. I remmebr him saying "People don't understand how bad suffering is until they've suffered themselves."

Jack, your Dad is as big a prick as you are. If he hadn't married his sister you wouldn't be here.
